8. The response...
The cow stopped in to Aunt Polly's house before the school bus came. Aunt Polly had the note ready. It said, "JUB NER LBH?" Aunt Polly told the cow to ask his teacher to write it on the blackboard. The teacher was intrigued. She wrote it on the blackboard at lunchtime. When the class returned from lunch there was a buzz of interest. Everyone was trying to figure it out. The cow and the teacher didn't tell the class who wrote the note. It was their secret. The next day another note greeted the cow when he got to school. It said, "WL BLF IVZOOB DZMG GL PMLD?" Neither the cow nor his teacher could make it out. They copied the letters carefully. When the cow got home he showed it to Aunt Polly. Polly said she would try to decode it. In the meantime, she suggested the cow investigate who was writing the notes. The cow would need help in school, but who could he turn to for help? When he got to school the cow spoke to his teacher about what Aunt Polly said. The decided to talk it over during lunch. The cow looked at his fellow students wondering who it might be. Mike sat next to the cow. They were good friends for years. Zelda sat in front of the cow. She had cute pig tails. The cow's sister hung out with her almost every day after school. Zelda had dinner with the cows often. She wasn't the type to keep secrets. There was also the genius Ted, silent Sammy, and skinny Paul. He knew them for years. And then there was Karla. She was new to the class. Could it be her? |
